Who Needs a Tourist Visa?

All foreign nationals, except Indians, need a visa to enter Nepal. You can get a tourist visa on arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu or at any of the land border crossings with India, Tibet, and China.

How to Get a Tourist Visa?

The process of obtaining a tourist visa is straightforward. Simply fill in the online ‘Tourist Visa’ form before you arrive or at the airport using the Kiosk machines. You can also get a visa from Nepalese diplomatic missions before your arrival. Make sure you carry cash as a mode of payment.

Tourist Visa Fees

The fees for tourist visas on arrival depend on the duration of your stay:

  1. 15 Days – 30 USD
  2. 30 Days – 50 USD
  3. 90 Days – 125 USD

Tourist Visa Extension

If you want to extend your tourist visa, you can do so for a minimum of 15 days with a fee of USD 45 and USD 3 per day for additional days. In case of a delay of fewer than 150 days, an additional USD 5 per day is charged as a late fine. You can extend your tourist visa at the Immigration Office in Pokhara or the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu.

Gratis Visa

Gratis visas are issued free of cost to certain categories of visitors, including children below 10 years (except for US citizens), SAARC citizens (except Afghanistan) visiting Nepal for the first time in a given visa year, Non-Residential Nepalese (NRN) cardholders, and Chinese nationals. Officials from China, Brazil, Russia, and Thailand do not need entry visas based on a reciprocal visa waiver agreement.

Remember, the tourist visa is the only entry visa to Nepal, even if you’re visiting for a purpose other than tourism. If you plan to stay longer or change your visa category, you’ll need to do so at the Department of Immigration or Immigration Office.
